Overview

PerksBar is a modular employee-engagement platform delivered as a SaaS suite: an employee app, an admin portal and a CMS. It supports client-specific customisation, content add-ons and integrations (web and Teams).

Problem

Companies wanted a sustainable way to drive recognition, participation and internal communication across modules (news, events, recognition, content) without a scattered experience or an unmanageable operational load.

Approach

I turned Confluence requirements into user stories and prioritised epics in Jira: onboarding and subscription, CMS UX, SocialBar, analytics and integrations.

I kept the team aligned through lean design reviews, defined feature flags per module, and designed flows with explicit guardrails (quotas, points, governance) so engagement stayed controlled and measurable.

Solution

The employee app home is configurable, with SSO onboarding, profile-completeness progress, notification controls and module visibility managed from the admin portal.

The Appreciation Wall became the core mechanic: recognition posts with likes and comments, points for both giver and recipient, and a monthly cap to prevent abuse. Event RSVP, dashboards, content-partner login and subscription-based exclusive content were layered on while the information architecture stayed coherent across mobile and CMS.

Lessons

The hard part was designing for scale and client variance: separating the engagement engine from each client’s branding and values, and turning one-off requests into a governed system of points, caps and admin controls.

The result was a cleaner delivery pipeline — clear epics, measurable readiness (QA/UAT) — and a product that could evolve without breaking its engagement loops.
